The Sea Detective by Mark Douglas-Home

Published by Penguin for £7.99

Cal McGill is an oceanographer, a self-styled sea detective, whose knowledge of ocean currents and prevailing winds enables him to calculate where an object, or a body part, washed up by the sea may have originated from.  His unconventional approach does not endear him to the police, but Cal has more dangerous enemies to contend with, people who want him out of the way at whatever cost.  Set in Edinburgh and the Western Isles, this is an intelligent and fast paced thriller reminiscent of Peter May.  The Sea Detective is the first of a series whose sequel, The Woman Who Walked Into The Sea, has also just been published.
